Just In: HC Jim Harbaugh has offered his former #49ers QB Colin Kaepernick a coaching position on the Los Angeles #Chargers.”He’s considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me.” – Jim Harbaugh…
Head coach Jim Harbaugh has his eyes on a former player ahead of the 2024 season.
The Los Angeles Chargers have been under constant change and movement this offseason. They parted ways with Brandon Staley to hand over the keys to Jim Harbaugh.
He is now tasked with re-shaping the team as they look to put a competitive product on the field. In 2023, the Chargers went 5-12 before parting ways with star playmakers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.
Los Angeles has a new coaching staff in the building and Harbaugh also has an interest in bringing in his former player onto his staff.
Chargers News: Colin Kaepernick Was Offered a Job on Chargers Staff
Harbaugh revealed to Jarrett Bell of USA TODAY that he offered a role on the coaching staff to Colin Kaepernick.
“”Yeah, we talked a little bit about it. He’s considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven’t reconnected since then. That was early, early in the year.””
– Jim Harbaugh
Kaepernick last played in the NFL during the 2016 campaign but had a lot of drama surrounding him. He was known for kneeling during the national anthem in protest of police brutality that was happening around the United States.
That led to a lot of scrutiny and hasn’t been in the league since. His best days in the NFL were under Harbaugh with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-2014. During that run, he threw for 8,360 yards, ran for 1,578 yards, and notched 60 total scores.
Those two men had a lot of postseason success with the 49ers, including a Super Bowl appearance. Now Harbaugh wants to bring that over to the Chargers.
Although the role hasn’t been announced, the 60-year-old coach would love to add the Nevada product to the staff.
With the regular season only a few weeks away, maybe we’ll get an update on Kaepernick’s response to Harbaugh’s offer.
