BREAKING: In 8 days history in the making will be revealed, the Chiefs are ready for the challenge and the KINGDOM will live forever may the Lord bless the team, AMEN!
Travis Kelce is perhaps the most accomplished tight end in NFL history, having enjoyed a Hall of Fame career as the Kansas City Chiefs are on the verge of a three-peat with the Super Bowl matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles right around the corner.
Kelce has made plenty of money in his career on and off the field, though he’s no stranger to fines. Unfortunately for the superstar, the NFL announced this week that they were taking some cash out of his pockets following the AFC Championship win over the Buffalo Bills.
After Patrick Mahomes scored a one-yard TD in the second quarter, Kelce was involved in a skirmish with Buffalo Bills defender Jordan Phillips. Kelce wasn’t flagged but has now received an $11,255 fine for taunting.
In fact, Kelce was head-butted by Phillips on the play in question. Phillips was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct and fined $6,722, so it makes little sense that Kelce’s fine would nearly double that.
Kelce saw his streak of 14 consecutive postseason games with 70+ receiving yards snapped in the win over Buffalo. However, he’s still the focal point of the Chiefs’ passing attack and holds numerous playoff receiving records.
Some have speculated that he could retire after this year and while it feels unlikely, there is a general understanding that Kelce is in the twilight of his career.
Hopefully, he’s got at least one more fantastic game up his sleeve. As things stand, the Chiefs are 1.5-point favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook over the Eagles.
If Kansas City gets the win, Kelce probably won’t mind an extra fine or two during the celebration
