Breaking News: Whoopi Goldberg Reacts to Beauty Site Misidentifying Her as…. See More
When Whoopi Goldberg arrived on Sunday’s Oscars red carpet, one beauty site took to Twitter to express their admiration for the actress’ giant shoulder tattoo — except they tweeted about the wrong person.
“We had no idea @Oprah was #tatted, and we love it. #Oscars,” Total Beauty wrote in the now-deleted tweet that also included an image of Goldberg.
Not that it’s ever a good time to confuse two public figures, Sunday was especially bad timing given the recent #OscarsSoWhite discussion surrounding the awards show. As expected, the tweet went viral and even led to Oprah respond to the situation via close friend Gayle King’s Instagram post.
“@Oprah & favorite daughter watching #Oscars & seeing @totalbeautyeditors snafu! We all love @whoopigoldberg but we don’t all look alike Jeeeze!” King captioned.
On Monday morning, Goldberg addressed the mix-up on The View via video from Los Angeles.
“They could have used an orangutan and said, ‘Boy, an orangutan has a new tattoo.’ I feel pretty good if you’re comparing me to Oprah, saying I look like Oprah, that’s not a bad thing. It could’ve been a lot worse,” said Goldberg when co-host Michelle Collins asked what she thought of the Total Beauty tweet.
The beauty site has since apologized, tweeting the following on Sunday night.
Not long after, Total Beauty tweeted that they would use the snafu as “an opportunity to donate $10k to @whoopigoldberg & @oprah’s charity of choice.”
However, it sounds like Goldberg doesn’t find it necessary. “They don’t need to do that. It happens. People make mistakes all the time,” she told Collins. “We’ve done it on the show, so thank you for that and come on — it’s an honest mistake.”
Goldberg added with a smile: “We both look good: Oprah and I.”.
