Breaking: Taylor Swift fans slam Pharrell Williams after he criticises stars endorsing politicians…See More
Pharrell Williams has slammed the stars who speak out publicly about which political candidate they are voting for.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 51-year-old music producer said: “I don’t do politics. In fact, I get annoyed sometimes when I see celebrities trying to tell you [who to vote for].”
“There are celebrities that I respect that have an opinion, but not all of them,” he continued. “I’m one of them people [who says], ‘What the heck? Shut up. Nobody asked you.'”
Williams, who is Louis Vuitton Men’s Creative Director, added, “When people get out there and get self-righteous and they roll up their sleeves and s**t, and they are out there walking around with a placard — shut up!”
His rant came the day after Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and has led to Swifties, the 34-year-old superstar’s fans, hitting back at the perceived slight against their idol.
“Pharrell is blatantly referring to Taylor – look at the timing. No other celeb’s endorsement has had her impact,” wrote one fan on X beneath a post of William’s comments shared by a Swiftie. ” Another said: “I’m disappointed in Pharel (sic) as he calls out Taylor for no reason. Why shouldn’t she say who she’s endorsing like the rest of us can. She’s a human being.”
A third commented: “Nah you shut up Pharrell! Taylor said she’s supporting Kamala cos of the lies out there that she was supporting Trump. She also didn’t tell us who to vote for!”
While a fourth wrote: “Pharrell is a lowkey Trump supporter. Why can’t celebs say who they vote for? In this election it’s important. He can shut up if he wants. Weirdo.”
The Happy singer, of course, did not say if he would be supporting Donald Trump or Vice President Harris in the upcoming US election.
