Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck seemed to have the perfect marriage. However, the couple split in 2015 and officially divorced in 2018. Affleck moved on with Jennifer Lopez in 2021, while Garner began dating John Miller in 2018. By 2022, Affleck and Lopez were married—and Garner explained that she “wedded” herself that same year. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck remained friends after their divorce. The couple fell in love shortly after Ben Affleck first split from Jennifer Lopez in 2004, and they married in 2005. Ten years later, the couple split before officially separating. Garner and Affleck became co-parents of their three children, and their split was never amicable.

Affleck continued dating Jennifer Lopez in 2021 and the couple married in 2022. Garner did not attend her ex-husband’s wedding. However, she explained to Town & Countryside She had her own wedding that year to celebrate her 50th birthday.

“I basically threw myself a wedding,” she told the publication. “I was so shocked when I did it.”

Garner’s birthday fell on Easter that year (April 17), so she invited her sisters and parents over to celebrate the holiday and her birthday. She asked other birthday attendees to help support the Blessings in a Backpack program by asking guests to fill 5,000 backpacks with food to feed a family of four.

She talked to More about her big birthday, which will be attended by family and friends. “My family has tickets to come,” she explained, “my parents and my sisters, my nieces and nephews. I don’t know what we’re going to do, but I can’t wait.”

Jennifer Garner has never had a bad word to say about her ex-husband, Ben Affleck, or his wife, Jennifer Lopez. In fact, she has never even talked about their beautiful wedding at Affleck’s Georgia estate. In a conversation with Town & Country, Garner mentioned that others see her as “nice,” especially because of the way she treated her ex.

“I have no reason not to be nice,” she explains. “My life is lovely.” But then she adds, “I’m not always nice. I can be mean, and I can be quiet, or I can be really serious about what I want to accomplish. It’s not that I feel undervalued in that way—I’m not afraid to stand up for myself and say, ‘Just so you know, this is not going to happen to me.’ When that happens, I don’t want you to be shocked to find out that I’m a real person.”
